HUJI is the largest Israeli institution focusing on research in education. The School is research-oriented, but it has led and/or taken active participation in the development and field implementation of many educational projects in schools and organizations. Its interests range from basic research in cognitive processes (such as concept learning and reading processes), through child development (motivation) to applied research (counselling, special education, mathematics education, science teaching). During the last 8 years, the team made Argumentation and argumentation-based CSCL a central item in its research agenda, resulting in several key publications, academic events and other joint activities around this subject. The unit for pre-service and in-service teachers' education in the School of Education is very active, and the topics delivered are often negotiated between the School and the Ministry of Education, which endorses and encourages the teachers' program for fostering argumentation in schools at all levels and age groups. HUJI has been active in several national and international collaborative projects, and has coordinated the DUNES project.
HUJI leads WP9 and WP11, and contributes to the work of WP2, WP3, WP8 and WP13. The Argumentation Group at HUJI specializes in the creation of environments for fostering learning through argumentation and discussion and in the conceptual development of user interfaces for teachers and students.
