InterMedia is an interdisciplinary research and development centre at UIO, administered by the Faculty of Education. The academic staff has research background in educational psychology, educational research, computer science, information systems, and media studies. InterMedia have conducted a large number of research projects in collaboration with internal partners at the university and external partners in industry and other universities. The main application areas for research are the educational sector, the health care sector and different types workplaces (such as service industry). InterMedia coordinates an interdisciplinary research program at UIO with five faculties involved, Competence and Media convergence. It is also the coordinator of the research program on Learning and ICT at the Faculty of Education and the newly established research school: Learning, Communication and ICT. At the national level InterMedia chaired the work that lead to a new research program on Learning and ICT at the Norwegian Research Council. The research group in the Learning and ICT consists of four senior researchers, two postdoctoral fellows, and 10 PhD students. Internationally, InterMedia participated in organizing the CSCL2003 Conference, and has been involved in a number of EU projects. UIO leads WP3 and conducts research in WP2, WP9, WP10.
